Systems Engineering Research Center announced
Stevens Institute of Technology has been recognized as the first University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) in the United States to focus on Systems Engineering Research.
Stevens Institute of Technology and the School of Systems and Enterprises are pleased to announce the award of the new Department of Defense (DoD)-funded Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC). This award represents the largest initiative focused in Systems Engineering in the nation.
SERC is led by Stevens Institute of Technology, with the University of Southern California (USC) serving as its principal collaborator. The SERC draws its resources and expertise from a collection of senior lead researchers from 18 collaborator schools and research organizations throughout the U.S., including: Air Force Institute of Technology, Auburn University, Carnegie Mellon University, Fraunhofer Center at the University of Maryland, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Pennsylvania State University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, University of Alabama in Huntsville, University of California - San Diego, University of Maryland, University of Massachusetts – Amherst, University of Virginia, Wayne State University.
SERC leadership includes Dr. Dinesh Verma, Dean, School of Systems and Enterprises (SSE) as the Executive Director; Dr. Arthur Pyster, Distinguish Research Professor, as the Deputy Executive Director; and Dr. Barry Boehm, Director of the Center for Systems and Software Engineering, USC, as Director of Research.
“This is a major recognition of Stevens Institute of Technology’s leadership, consolidated during the last decade, in the field of complex systems engineering,” said Dr. Dinesh Verma. “It is also a great measure of Stevens’ standing within the systems engineering community that we are joined in this successful achievement by our principal collaborator, the University of Southern California, and by our impressive consortium of academic collaborators.” Dr. Pyster added, “The SERC brings together a critical mass of researchers focused on the hard systems engineering problems that the DoD faces.”
Stevens’ recognition as the lead university of the nation’s first Systems Engineering Research – University Affiliated Research Center comes on the heels of two other prestigious government contract awards: Stevens has been designated as a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence in both Port Security Research and Information Assurance Research.
“Becoming one of the nation’s leaders in complex systems education and research is a top strategic priority for Stevens,” said Dr. Harold J. Raveche, President of Stevens Institute of Technology. “This significant recognition puts us one step closer to achieving our goal.”
