Dr. Kennedy maintains a multidisciplinary research interest that incorporates aspects of engineering, communication, management, and psychology in the investigation of team processes, behaviors, and performance. She is interested in team collaboration and how communication technologies influence that collaboration. Current studies include research of decision-making and conflict in teams that interact using different communication media. Dr. Kennedy also studies team cognitive processes through pattern analysis of team communication. In this stream of research, Dr. Kennedy examines mental model convergence during team development. Her investigations focus on how cognitive processes unfold and whether the temporality of process outputs during collaboration impact team outcomes. Her research methods for studying team processes and behaviors have included regression, simulation, genetic algorithms, neural networks, and survival analysis. Data for her current research efforts has been funded by grants from the Office of Naval Research and the National Science Foundation.
